Reginald Harvey

Reginald Harvey is an intelligent and well-spoken survivor with a lot to say. His medical trauma, his penchant for details, and his expertise in manufacturing process qualify him uniquely to write this book. Harvey earned a B.S. in Business Management from LeTourneau University, and an M.S. in Science and Technology Commercialization from the University of Texas at Austin.

“The Gift of Living With Intention”

What differentiates a disease from an illness?  The former is the objective diagnosis one carries, whereas the latter is how one chooses to live with that diagnosis.  Harvey simply refused to perceive himself as sick or to let anyone else define him as such – and the serenity and spiritual integrity he radiates is evidence of how empowering that choice can be.

This is an extraordinarily brave and inspiring account of one man’s journey, to prevail over a crucible of unanticipated medical conditions that threatened his life. Many of us who might… face… such a constellation of challenges might understandably be expected to get lost in resentments or grief, or to become distracted by the quest to find a villain in the piece—at their own peril, if they eschew seeking help in the process.

This remarkable man chose to tenaciously fight for his survival, dignity, and vitality. By arming himself with information, and investigating healthcare resources that aligned with his values, he steadfastly forged a new path in his life, rather than getting lost on a quest to reclaim his prior one.

Self-determinance is my preferred way of living whenever possible. But life just throws challenges in our path that don't fit with our personal plans. How do you bridge these life road bumps? In my recently published medical memoir I dive deeply into my journey with a life-threatening illness (Stage-4 Renal Failure). I have learned that DISEASE is the clinical definition of the sickness; whereas ILLNESS describes how one chooses to live with it. In my case I immediately had to decide whether to run, hide, and wait to die -- or to dare to live. No -- dare to thrive! Join me in a series of conversations that few people are willing to have.
